Overview

The project at 690 Market Street was an extensive remodel of the original headquarters for the San Francisco Chronicle Newspaper. The core structure of the building had been demolished leaving exposed the 16 story original brick façade that had been clad in aluminum in the 1970's. A new high rise structure was built inside the original façade.

Quantum was tasked at providing new custom wood windows to fit the existing brick openings essentially matching millwork details from two different eras in the building's history. Lacking the original architectural drawings, Quantum defined the design of the original wood windows through careful field measurement and survey. In addition to matching historical aesthetic design, the new architectural windows featured special laminated insulated glass for energy efficiency and exterior noise reduction.
